Anyone with advice on buying a Motorola unlocked cell phone?
My husband dropped his cell buzz in some water and has no insurance, not due for an upgrade for a even as. Most Motorola phones we have found are unlocked. Cingular says some of the features may not work on unlocked phones. Is this right? Has anyone else used unlocked phones with Cingular?
He is looking at the razr, pebl (sp?) or something like that with camera & video.

Any GSM cell buzz that is unlocked will work. You should not have any problem with any of the features, I only know this because i have both bought and sold many unlocked phones on ebay. I am also a cingular dealer, so I know what they where trying to do. That is to scare you away from buying any buzz but one that they have in store or over the buzz, and that will cost you 200-300 dollars. Hope that this ansewer helps.
Hi Mac
it is pretty unadorned and not much to worry about.
If you buy your buzz direct from Motorola, you can either buy a Cingular branded Plbl or Razr with all the right settings, or you can buy the unlocked unbranded version of the buzz, go to Cingulars support website and enter the Cingular settings. All features will work.
If your husband does not use the internet, then you would not have to enter Cingulars settings, the buzz will still make and recieve calls and send texts.
If you buy unlocked unbranded from other sources such as ebay, these will be phones typically made for sale in the european promote, in this case you will have to imput the cingular settings again only if he wants to access the internet.
If you do buy a European Motorola, just make sure it is a quadband (GSM850/900/1800/1900) Some Razrs and pebls made for the UK are only tri-band (gsm900/1800/1900). If you buy the European version, it must be quadband for Cingular because Cingular runs on GSM850 in some areas. Hope this helped, if you find something, you can send me the link if you are unsure
Cheers
There is a new unlocked Motorola RAZR at 30% off fee here. I ain’t sure about buying a used cellphone…..but you may try site like eBay.
