Can you plug a laptop into the phone line?
without is being dial up? And how do you do that? Like what types of cords do I need.
I’m getting an Acer 15.6 laptop for Christmas and my mom just told me to plug it into the buzz line and the laptop by now has a modem in it I don’t know, she’s computer illiterate so there’s no way she’s right.

Hi Blahxx;
Sorry but your Mom is right this time. The laptop will have a modem built in, by the side of with a wireless card and a network port. As long as you have a dial up account with a ISP (and the Tel # and password) then you will be able to connect. You would use a regular telephone cord.
Now if your Mom is saying to plug it into the telephone line and you will have the Internet then she is so WRONG!.
If you can, talk your Mom into high alacrity (DSL or Cable), you will be disappointed with dial up.
yes i belive you can. and if you ae not sure just question someone for a store where your mom is buying it from
Ignore the first answer because a laptop does not have a modem built in it. Yes, it does have a wireless card to find a wireless signal to connect to the internet, but you need a modem (most commonly referred to as a router) that provides a wireless signal. Yes you can plug the laptop into the buzz line with a network cable, but your internet connection will be extremely slow (Dial up connection.) Convince your mom to set up a router through cable or dsl and then you will have the power to connect to a much quicker internet.
According to the spec. for a 15.6 Acer Laptop you have a modem for dial-up, an Ethernet port, and a WiFi WLAN. so yes you can Connect to a telephone jack (RJ11) but if you have access to and Ethernet connection (RJ45) you would be surpass served with that!. the WiFi will work also with a wireless router. If you have cable…then you may by now have both wireless and wired router check with your cable provider!
