GPS Garmin questions?
I am considering buying the garmin nuvi 660. I looked at the Garmin website and there are some things that I don’t know:
1. 660 has the ability to add maps, how ? do I have to buy them or just download for free from the internet, if so which site?
How can I bring up to date maps?
2. built-in memory it mentions “domestic solid state”, what does it mean? how many gigabites or megabites( I don’t know) does it have?
3. Accepts data cards, what’s that for?
4. Waypoints: 500, what does that mean?
5. MSN® Direct for U.S. compatible, uhh, do I need it?
As you can see I am lost in the specs, I am also considering garmin nuvi 350, it’s a lot cheaper and will take me places. In my opinion, the only advantage of the 660 is the wider LCD screen since I don’t care much about about the buzz and telephone system and so on. I want something that will take me from point A to point B.
Help me please, your opinion will help me choose.
Thanks

GPS: TomTom GO 720 vs Garmin Nuvi 250w?
I’m curious which you would pick between the two.
I can get the TomTom Go 720 for $350 CAD
and the Garmin Nuvi 250w for $350 CAD as well ($370 with a 3 year warranty and some swag too!)
The main differences between the two are:
the TomTom has voice to text (“Turn right on Eglinton”) vs the Nuvi is just voice “Turn Right Ahead”
The TomTOm has 2BG domestic storage, whereas the Nuvi uses a SD Card.
Nice to haves
TomTom Go 720
- can integrate my ipod with it and have it broadcast to my car stereo so i don’t need my current fm transmitter
- bluetooth compatable with my cell buzz!
Nuvi 250w
- can use Garmin travel guides, which would be nice for our trip to europe
- I know it will go longitude and latitude searches, so I can geocache if I wanted to with it.
- has a walking mode, which TomTom does not (might only use on trip and hiking even if)
My primary use would be in the car
We do a link of trips a year where it would be nice to use it to walk.
I’m trying to stick to a product with a 4.3″+ screen. I dont want the 3.5 models. Unfortunately Garmin doesn’t make too many widescreen models, even if I feel they have more functionality in their machines.

Are there any GPS Navigation programs for cell phones that do not use a data connection?
I just got a cell buzz with GPS capabilities but I do not have a data plot, and do not want to pay the fee for data. Are there any programs I can download that will make my buzz function like a normal GPS device, Garmin, TomTom, etc?

Unregister Garmin GPS?
I have a garmin GPS i want to sell but i registered it on garmin.com which means my buzz# and address are linked to the device’s serial #.
is there a way to unregister it so when i sell it, the new owner can’t see my info if they were to call garmin or something? Thanks
