I have a newer Sanyo cell phone. Without my Sprint service on it. Can I use a calling card with it?

For Christmas i got a new cell buzz. My Sanyo was only a month ancient.
Can my son use a calling card to make calls with it?
That cell is no longer on my Sprint service.
